A Mustang driver plowed through the crowd at a classic car meet in Southern Bavaria yesterday. 5 people severely injured. The driver lost control when leaving the meet. Classic!

Looks like it had a nice side salad. Good to see it enjoying a well balanced diet.

It’s getting hard to say I own this on the internet and not get flooded with memes.
Drove it yesterday and didn’t kill anyone. I must be a excellent driver or my bloodlust just isn’t strong enough.

Damn Mustangs, starting to attack Europe! A Capri wouldn’t have done that.

I must be tired. I thought the leaves in the grill were the trees in the background, thinking there was a massive hole from the grill through the passenger door.

Well, it always takes a while until a new trend gets picked up in the old world.

Mustang memes aside, why is it that a disproportionate amount of these incidents involve American cars? So many of those compilation videos of cars doing burnouts leaving C&C meets are taken up by a bunch of Mustang/Camaro/Challenger/Corvette/GTO with the occasional Viper or BMW thrown in. I just don’t understand why those groups are the ones responsible for SO many of the issues.

Probably sheer quantity. In 2014 Porsche sold 47k vehicles total (this includes every vehicle Porchse sells) in the US. Last year just the Corvette was at 20k

Definitely only an American Car problem:
In all seriousness it does seem to happen more with American Pony/Muscle Cars. I suspect it’s because you can get a whole lot of power for a whole lot less money.

Simple: tons of power for not much money. Any 20-something year old with a job can afford the monthly payments on a 435hp Mustang (or a 430hp used C6 Vette in my case). Many young people can’t be trusted with that much power.
Not that older folks are better drivers, but they’re less inclined to hoon an expensive car.

I think a big part of it is overall American car culture. As a nation we have a dearth of great driving roads, but we sure have a shit load of straight ones. As a result, straight line performance, including burnouts, became the norm. Not to mention most of American car culture is still based on the muscle car era, which pretty much is reliant on extreme HP and burnouts.
I also think it comes down to posturing. If you have a canyon carver, you can show off your car’s performance to maybe one or two people at a time. You can show off a burnout to a crowd.
